ST. LOUIS - Charles Yanson was discharged from the Army Air Force at Jefferson Barracks on points. Yanson, a former staff sergeant, was stationed at Phoenix, Ariz. Previously, he served in England for more than a year.

SIKESTON - Twenty Sikeston beauties are contending for the right to be crowned Miss Sikeston at the football game Friday night with the Charleston Blue Jays. Coming to crown Miss Sikeston will be R.J. "Buz" King, Republican state representative from St. Louis County.

NEW MADRID - Fourteen-year-old Deidre Carter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Carter of New Madrid, was selected Junior Miss American Legion during Fall Festival activities in New Madrid Thursday night. Also selected from among the 29 entries in the contest were Jennifer Broughton, 15, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Broughton of New Madrid as first runner-up and second runner-up Robin Moore, 12, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Moore of New Madrid.

SIKESTON - During the Aug. 4 commencement ceremony at Southeast Missouri State University, Robin Shelton of Sikeston Route 3 received her degree with academic distinction. She completed a master of arts with a major in speech pathology.


SIKESTON - Members of the Scott County Unit of the American Heart Association met Monday afternoon at Dumplins to celebrate the kick off to the Healthy Choice American Heart Walk set for Oct. 1. Committee members include Dr. Frank W. Kroetz, Angie Friend, chairperson, Dianne Jackson, president of the Scott County AHA, Dr. Victor E. Mejia, Regina Lewis, Felicia Blanton, Cindy New, Robin Hough and Robin Pace.
