SHS golfers lose to Cape

SIKESTON -- Sikeston's golf team was defeated by Cape Central on Wednesday, 162-165.

"I was disappointed in the way we shot today," said Sikeston head coach Rick Oetting. "We had a couple of strong rounds, but fell a stroke or two off on others. I'm waiting for all cylinders on the golfing machine to fire together and it just hasn't happened yet."

E.C. Atchison was the low medalist with a one-over par 37. He was followed by Jason Deere at 41, Tanner Fritz at 43 and Matt Hon at 44. Cape Central's scores came from Ty Gramling at 39, Blake Driskell at 41, Todd Obergoenner at 41 and Paul York at 42.

The Bulldogs will be back in action today, traveling to Poplar Bluff.

"Cape brought a team that has improved from last year," said Oetting. "We tried a strategy that I though might have given us an edge on Cape, and it just didn't pan out. Some days are like that. We'll have a chance to suck it up and see if we can take this heartbreaker and turn it on Bluff tomorrow."

In Wednesday's junior varsity match, Cape Central defeated Sikeston 195-210.

Sikeston scores came from Clint Bohannon with a 47, Ed Pike at 51, Darris Butler at 53 and Justin Eberhard at 59. Cape Central scorers were Matt Welker at 46, Ben Siebert at 47, Corey Marchbanks at 48 and Zach Kluesner at 49.
