Speakout 4/30

Friday, April 30, 2004

To the person who is interested in poke greens, call me at (573) 683-2483. I have a small patch in my yard and you are welcome to pick it all and buy it.

My 9-year-old grandson's father died about a year ago. Before his death, his father had bought a brown Mongoose 16-inch bicycle. Someone came and stole the little boy's bicycle from the house at 620 Poplar Street in Morehouse. This bike meant a lot to the child. He had to go to school this morning, knowing his bicycle was gone. He had just learned to ride it. It's sad and terrible. Whoever took this child's bike, you should be ashamed of yourself. You broke his heart. This present came from his father before he died. If anyone knows about this, return the bike to the above address and there will be a reward.

To the person who needs to clean a white collar on a brightly colored dress, do not use dishwasher detergent. It has bleach and will eat up the material. Use Oxy-Clean or another type of oxygen cleaner. It won't wreck the material.

The changes in the parks in New Madrid will affect the ball programs and every other organization in New Madrid and surrounding cities, including the Chamber of Commerce, Relay for Life and everything. People need to check into it and see what they're talking about. The parks will likely be closed completely down if this goes through with this insurance company.

I enjoy reading the Standard Democrat, especially Looking Back in Time. But I see mostly Sikeston. There were more readers than just Sikeston. Could we see more items from other towns?

Thank you for pointing this out. We will expand our focus to include other areas.

This is about the HIPAA law that was in Friday's paper. HIPAA stands for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and only applies to health care plans, health care providers and health care clearinghouses.

They want to take "under God" out of our Pledge of Allegiance. In America, we are allowing atheists to rule our country but not allowing the people to speak. We allow the Supreme Court to say whether we have the right to keep "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. This issue should be decided by the registered voters in this country. It should be put on the ballot with the presidential election. I have noticed that since they took prayer out of school, the schools have gone straight downhill. There is more violence now than before. Our churches are going down, basically, because we don't teach our children about God. They want to teach evolution in school but they don't want to teach religion.
