Your view: Principles missing

Monday, March 15, 2004

In view of all the social upheaval in our land today, I feel we should revert to those principles on which our country was founded. The violations of our criminal codes were less common when we relied on those historical principles. In view of space limitations, I will mention three of those principles that were taught earlier.

"In vain are our schools, academies and universities instituted, if loose principles and licentious habits are impressed upon children in their earliest years." - John Adams, 1778

"The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next." - Abraham Lincoln

"The only assurance of our nation's safety is to lay our foundation in morality and religion." - Abraham Lincoln

As we, as a culture, phase out such principles as these, we find our national values in a state of free-fall, and our dependence on man alone is futile.
