Cape Central falls to DeSoto, 66-56
DESOTO - The Central boys basketball team nearly pulled off an upset Friday night, falling 66-56 at De Soto.
The Dragons (24-2) are ranked No. 1 among small schools in the Post-Dispatch's top 10 poll. The game went back and forth throughout the second half, with Central building a seven-point lead early in the fourth quarter. De Soto shot 13 free throws late to clinch the win.
Ryan Delph led Central (17-8) with 14 points, and Jake Knepp and Eli Harris added 10 apiece.
"We came out and played extremely hard in a hostile environment,"Central coach Derek McCord.
DeSoto has not lost a home game at "The Pit" since the 2001-02 season opener against Central.
The Tigers outrebounded the Dragons 37-27 despite the presence of 6-foot-8 Tony Boyle and 6-foot-7 Anthony Thebeau.
Boyle was held to seven points, including just one field goal. Thebeau led De Soto with 20.
CAPE GIRARDEAU - Notre Dame won at home on senior night.
Bryce Willen led the Bulldogs (5-19) with 24 points and John Eric Klein scored 16.
Jared Obendorfer and Chad Stelling each scored 10 points for Perryville (5-17).
ORAN - Oran used a big fourth quarter -- scoring half of its total points -- to win at home.
Garrett Roslen led Oran (4-12) with 13 points. Matt Seyer added 12 and Ryan Bouge had 11.
Brad Uhrhan led Chaffee (1-18) with 12 points, and Brandon Davis had 10.
LEOPOLD - Brent Menz hit two free throws at the end of regulation and Delta won in overtime on the road.
Zack Kelley led Delta (17-7) with 18 points. Menz had 14, and Kevin Bartels added 11.
Lucas Horrell led Leopold (11-11) with 18 points and Kelly Stause had 16.
PERRYVILLE - St. Vincent took the lead early and defeated Meadow Heights at home.
St. Vincent led 41-24 at halftime and 69-35 after three.
Danny Rellergert led St. Vincent (12-9) with 22 points.
Jacob DeWilde scored 21, Alex Armbruster had 17 and Pat Siegmund added 10.
Terry Wagner led Meadow Heights (12-10) with 16 points. Brian Thompson and Heath Fulton each had 14.
OAK RIDGE - Oak Ridge had three scorers in double figures in a home win.
Austin Morrison scored 17 points, Austin Hahs had 15 and Brian Ruesler added 14 for the Blue Jays (4-17).
David Hovis led Zalma (2-18) with 19 points and Curt Wiseman had 12.
