CHARLESTON - Mary Francis Middleton has received word from the Civil Service Commission in Washington to report to the National Bituminous Coal Commission in that city. The young lady has been with the Simpson Oil Co. at Charleston for some months.

PORTAGEVILLE - Andrew Eftink, a farmer living north of Portageville, is minus a 400-pound Landrace sow, according to deputy sheriff Flip Dees. To make matters worse, the animal was butchered on Eftink's farm and the carcass carried over one-quarter mile across a field by the thieves.

SIKESTON - Workers from the Delta Counties Bank are putting together the bank's float for the Sikeston Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce Promotion Committee. The theme is toyland parade.


SIKESTON - Discussion on a pre-application for a park grant and the search for a new Sikeston Department of Public Safety director were among the topics discussed at this morning's special City Council meeting. City Manager Dan Ward provided an update on the selection process for a new director.

SIKESTON - The Junior High cheerleaders took first place in the Junior High Show Division of the Missouri State Cheerleading Coaches Association State Cheerleading Competition. The Senior High School cheerleaders took second place in the 4A Show Division at the competition.


SIKESTON - Nanette Morris opened the path for imaginations to run wild as she read to students at Matthews Elementary School Tuesday morning. The special guest was invited to the school in recognition of National Education Week.
