SIKESTON - Sikeston High School dropped its first game yesterday afternoon in the Cape Girardeau Holiday Tournament at Houck Field House, when they could not hit the basket on shots presented them and lost 25 to 34 to the College High preps.


SIKESTON - Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Matthews are entertaining with a dance at the Country Club this evening for their daughter, Dot, who is home for the holidays.

SIKESTON - Leonard's Shell service station, 903 W. Malone, was burglarized Thursday night and an estimated $138 in merchandise was taken. Taken were two used guns, rings, two transistor radios and three watches.

PORTAGEVILLE - The Bootheel Coalition for the Homeless took the first steps toward a comprehensive plan Tuesday at a meeting at the Delta Area Economic Opportunity Corporation. The coalition was formed earlier this month and is spearheaded by Steve Triplett, planner and supervisor of the Portageville DAEOC office.

SIKESTON - Margaret Dorris of 1st Realty/Better Homes and Garden received a plaque in recognition of attaining the $1 million mark in sales production in 1997. The presentation was made by Gerald Rogers, broker-partner at the company.


WAYNESVILLE - Army National Guard Pvt. Jason P. Mitchell has graduated from basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood. The son of Rick E. Mitchell and Eunice Gentry of Sikeston is a 1995 graduate of Sikeston High School.


SIKESTON - Will Yarbrough of Sikeston was among 97 graduates who received degrees in the Dec. 12 commencement ceremony at Freed-Hardeman University. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Yarbrough was awarded a bachelor of business administration with a concentration in management.
