Johnson loses in first round, wins wrestleback

COLUMBIA - Sikeston heavyweight Joe Johnson lost his first round match to Nixa's Lee VonAllman when he was pinned in 1:58 on Thursday at the Missouri State Wrestling Championships at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.

However, Johnson did stay alive as he pinned Jonathan Decker of Hickman Mills in 1:24 in his wrestleback match.

New Madrid County Central still has two wrestlers alive after the first day while two were eliminated.

Cole Burch (125 pounds) pinned Butler freshman Jared Lindsay in 58 seconds to win his first round match.

Ryan Fowler (171) lost his first round match to Polo's Shannon Hobbs when he was pinned in 1:06. But Fowler stayed alive by pinning Fatima's Chris Wulff in 2:12 during the wrestlebacks.

NMCC wrestlers that were eliminated were Delanio Taylor (160) and Demarkus Allison (189).

Taylor was pinned in the first round by Jerret Reno in 2:46. He then lost his wrestleback match to Lawson's Kyle Kolbe who won a major decision 16-4.

Allison lost by technical fall in the first round to Maysville's Aaron Pollard, 17-0.

Allison was then eliminated by Knob Noster's Brad Hughes by major decision, 14-5.
