Walter Hedrick

KANSAS CITY - Walter N. Hedrick, 89, formerly of Sikeston, died July 18, 2005, at his home in Kansas City.

Born May 13, 1916, in Davis, W.Va., son of the late Rose Belle and Samuel L. Hedrick, he graduated from Frostburg State Teachers College in Frostburg, Md., and taught in Luke, Md., before serving as a naval lieutenant commander during World War II. He earned his MBA from the University of Michigan and returned to Cumberland, Md., where he became a lifelong businessman. In 1964, he founded Hedrick Concrete Products in Sikeston, where he served as president until his retirement.

A member of the First United Methodist Church in Sikeston, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member and lay leader, Walter also served as president of the Southeast Missouri Boy Scout Council and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He was a member of the Sikeston Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow.

On Oct. 10, 1942, he married Lois Williams of Ocean, Md., who preceded him in death on Oct. 7, 2003.

Survivors include: two daughters and one son-in-law, Suzanne Hedrick of Kansas City and Janet and James Hunter of Fairfax; one son and daughter-in-

law, Thomas and Donna Hedrick of Sikeston; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until time for a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Sikeston. The Rev. Geoff Posegate, pastor, will officiate.
