Kelly rips Charleston; Bulldog netters fall to Dexter
CHARLESTON - The Kelly Hawks baseball team posted a convincing victory against Charleston at Hillhouse Park on Wednesday, rolling to an 11-1 win.
Kelly's Russell Carroll was the winning pitcher in four innings pitched. He allowed two hits and struck out seven.
Kendall Deason threw three innings of relief, allowing one unearned run off two hits, a walk and four strikeouts.
Charleston's Brink Naile was the losing pitcher in seven innings pitched. He allowed 11 runs (three earned) off 11 hits. He walked three and struck out three.
Charleston (6-11) got one hit apiece from Josh Marshall, Spencer Whitehead, Phillip Wise and Cody Pullen. Marshall also had an RBI.
Kelly was led in hitting by Carroll's three hits, including a triple and an RBI. Caleb Daughhetee went 2-5 with two RBIs and an inside-the-park home run.
Deason also had two hits and an RBI. Danny Wilson was 1-4 with two RBIs and Jordan Felter was 1-4.
"We've had a lot of rain and Mike McIlroy and Charleston Park Department always have that field ready," said Charleston coach Chris Stanfield. "I don't have to do anything on the field and they make it easy on me."
Charleston will play at Puxico today at 4 p.m. and will then return home to host Oran on Friday.
Kelly will host Scott City today in the SEMO Conference Tournament at 4 p.m.
The Sikeston Bulldog tennis team fell to 7-3 on the season with a 7-2 road loss to Dexter on Wednesday.
"Dexter has a solid team -- they're undefeated on the season and are definitely the front-runners in our district," said Sikeston coach Brian James. "We had some close matches, just couldn't pull some of them out. We played with them toe-to-toe in most of the matches."
Sikeston will host Cape Central today at 4 p.m.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston golf team improved to 8-4 with a win against New Madrid County Central on Wednesday.
"Today our top guns took a day off and we wanted to see who would step up before district to be a team player," said Sikeston coach Rick Oetting.
Derris Butler was medalist with a 39 followed by Zed Hagen 41 and Billy Green 42. The other three members of the varsity tied for the fourth score 47, Tradd Hess, Trey Oetting and Joseph Bowman for a team finish of 169. NMCC was led with Tyler Warf and Thorn Robbins shooting 44 followed by Jerod Stobaugh 45 and Ryan Fowler 47 (179).
The junior varsity won for Sikeston today beating NMCC 102-116, with Curtis Arnold and Clay Tongate shooting 51 each.
The varsity Bulldogs head to Cape Central today for the final duel of the season.
CAPE GIRARDEAU - The Sikeston girls soccer team lost a 1-0 double-
overtime heartbreaker to Notre Dame on Wednesday.
Notre Dame's Lauren Mehner scored on an assist from Meredith Medlin with eight seconds left in the second overtime.
It's the third time Sikeston has lost in overtime to Notre Dame this year and they are just 1-5-1 in OT games.
The Lady Bulldogs are 3-11-1 overall.
Notre Dame out-shot Sikeston 24-to-13. Audra Wooley had 23 saves for Sikeston.
Sikeston's junior varsity lost to Notre Dame 7-0.
