SIKESTON - Fire, which started in the basement, caused considerable damage to the Church of the Nazarene, Scott and Trotter streets, Sunday morning.


SIKESTON - An offering of surplus buildings for purchase and removal from the site at Sikeston was made by the War Assets Administration.

NEW MADRID - The New Madrid chapter of the American Red Cross launched its month-long drive for funds in what Harry Leuer, chairman, termed one of the most crucial years for the local organization in Post-World War II history.

Feb. 23, 1987

SIKESTON - Relaxation has been enjoyed by Sikeston and area residents during the pretty days the area has been experiencing recently. Temperatures have been unseasonably warm during much of the past few weeks and many people are finding activities to keep them outdoors.

SIKESTON - Lucian Cayce definitely knows his nuts and bolts. Putting them together is one of the many activities Cayce and the other residents on Autumn Court enjoy doing each day at Hunter Acres Caring Center. The planned activity time always consists of something different and is geared specifically to each of the resident's capabilities.


CHARLESTON - Although it was a win, much more was expected of the defending 3A state champion Charleston Bluejays on Friday night. Charleston had a laid back attitude, squeaking to a 57-44 win over Park Hills Central. "We played a lousy game," bemoaned Charleston head coach Bobby Spencer. "There was no comparison to the game we played against Cape Central. If we play like this in the districts, we can plan on packing up and leaving the tournament early. We need to play our best game every night."
