EAST PRAIRIE -- June LaPlant Brown, 85, died at 2:15 p.m. May 13, 2006, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Aug. 25, 1920, in the Barnes Ridge community, daughter of the late George Washington and Clara Tanner LaPlant, she lived most of her life in East Prairie where she was a member of the First Christian Church.

On Dec. 28, 1937, at Paragould, Ark., she married Phonzie William Brown who survives of the home.

Survivors also include: one daughter, Linda Brown Coker of The Villages, Fla.; one son and daughter-in-law, Phonzie William and Nezalee Brown Jr. of Franklin, Tenn.; one brother, Bernell LaPlant of Charleston; three granddaughters and spouses, Shannon and David Haynes of Memphis, Tenn., Valerie and Bill Wright of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Vickie and Dr. Howard Mertz of Nashville, Tenn.; and five great-grandchildren.

Five brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

Visitation is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday with Fred Girdwood officiating.

Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery.
