LAFORGE - J. D. Akins, 74, died Sept. 12, 2005, at his home.

Born Feb. 27, 1931, in Marston, son of the late J.D. and Avis Autry Akins Sr., he was a member of Boilermakers Union 27, New Madrid Eagles Aerie 4206 and the Powerhouse Church of God in Sikeston.

On Sept. 27, 1975, in Georgia, he married Dixie M. Chambliss who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: three sons, Danny Akins and Jimmy Akins of Chandler, N.C., and Ronnie Akins of Paducah, Ky.; two daughters, Vicky Beaton and Audrey Nobel of Florida; one stepdaughter, Lonnie Jackson of Litchfield, Ill.; one stepson, Billy Douglas of St. Louis; one brother, Mack Akins of Cypress, Ill.; and a nephew whom he raised, Jerry Dale Akins of Cypress; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Tony Akins; one grandson, Jimmy Joe Akins, Jr.; three brothers, Earl Akins, Loyal Akins and Dewey Akins; two sisters, Ola Akins and Joy Sweet Akins; and one stepdaughter, Venus Kimball; and one grandson, Jimmy Joe Akins Jr.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the Powerhouse Church of God. The Rev. David Craig will officiate.

Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery at New Madrid.
