SIKESTON - Sikeston's Bulldogs were held powerless by the Cape Central Tigers in a game last night at Houck Stadium and Bulldog miscues set up two scoring opportunities which the Tigers took advantage of to win in a Big Eight Conference game 12 to 0.

CHARLESTON - Two propositions in Tuesday's off-year election were soundly defeated. The school district's proposal for a 40 cent per $100 assessed valuation tax for construction of a $1.25 million auditorium at the high school was rejected overwhelmingly, 1,103 to 219. The city's proposition for a 5 cent per $100 assessed valuation for the park fund was also defeated with 464 voting no to 355 yes votes.


MINER - Water was the dominating topic at the November Miner City Council meeting Tuesday night. The council discussed water plant expansion, a way to provide Lambert's Cafe with a water line and the possibility of eradicating surface water from residential districts.

PORTAGEVILLE - U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson announced recently that $281,250 in federal Head Start funding was designated for the Delta Area Economic Opportunity Corporation Head Start program. The money will be used to purchase five 65-passenger school buses, provide for computer training and implement program improvements.


CARUTHERSVILLE - Over 100 children participated in the Pemiscot County Sheriffs Department's "Candy Scan" during Halloween. According to a department spokesman, there were "no indications of any foul play and no foreign objects were located by deputies scanning the candy."
