NEW HAMBURG - Amelia Theresa Essner, 84, died at 6:25 p.m. Jan. 4, 2006, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

Born March 24, 1921, in Kelso, daughter of the late Frank Joseph and Mary Catherine Bles Kieffer, she had worked as a cutter for Florsheim Shoe in Chaffee and was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg and St. Ann's Sodality.

On Aug. 17, 1939, in Kelso, she married Cyrill Albert Essner, who preceded her in death on June 4, 1976.

Survivors include: two sons, Larry Essner of Cape Girardeau and Richard Essner of Perryville; one brother, Andrew Kieffer of Kelso; one sister, Mary Joan Backfish of Benton; and six grandchildren.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 6 p.m. at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg. The Rev. Normand Varone, Monsignor Richard Rolwing and the Rev. Tom Kiefer will officiate.

Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery in New Hamburg.
