DPS to increase traffic enforcement

SIKESTON -- Due to the increased traffic brought on by the holiday season, the Sikeston Department of Public Safety will heighten its traffic enforcement areas in and around the city over the next several weeks.

According to DPS Director Drew Juden, the department will conduct some checkpoints in the community with most centered in and around the main points of entrance to and exits from the city. The checkpoints will be designed to check for driver's license, seat belts, insurance cards and sobriety.

"It is our goal to not inconvenience anyone for a long period of time, but still keep the motoring public as safe as possible," Juden said. "We would encourage everyone to take their time, drive safely, buckle up and most of all, not drive while you are impaired."
