Six injured in separate accident on Saturday

ESSEX -- An Essex man died as the result of a single-vehicle accident Sunday evening.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 9:12 p.m. on Route E, two miles north of Idalia. Gilbert D. Marler, 38, was traveling west when he lost control of his vehicle and ran off the north side of the roadway. The vehicle overturned and ejected Gilbert, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Stoddard County Coroner Morgan Sifford.

Six people were injured in a vehicle collision near Malden on Saturday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 7 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 25 and Highway 62 in Malden. A northbound vehicle driven by Robert H. Nichols, 74, of Memphis, Tenn., turned into the path of a southbound vehicle driven by Emigieo Coreno, 56, of Clarkton, striking it head on.

Nichols was moderately injured and taken by EMS to Twin Rivers Hospital. Coreno and passenger, Josephina Martinez, 20, also of Clarkton, received moderate injuries and were transported by EMS to Twin Rivers Hospital.

Coreno's other three passengers, Ismael Galindo and Oscar Galindo, ages unknown, and Joel L. Galindo, 25, all of Clarkton, were also moderately injured and transported by EMS to Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.
