SIKESTON - Mrs. D.L. Bloomfield and sons, Richard and Lee Walton, will be leaving tomorrow for Julesburg, Colo., for a visit of several weeks.

SIKESTON - A total of $51,101 was collected by the city in the month of July, Ronald Lee, collector, reported. The total is more than twice the amount collected in July 1966.

SIKESTON - Major brand gasoline dealers increased their prices for regular and premium today, bringing a four-week gas war to a close. The majors now charge 32.9 cents for regular and 36.9 for premium. The war started when three independents undercut the gasoline prices of other independents.


SIKESTON - A grant of $10,350 to Sikeston for the acquisition of about two acres of Central Park was made today, Senators Stuart Symington and Edward V. Long announced from Washington, D.C.

EAST PRAIRIE - A new building at a different location in the city's industrial park is the new home for East Prairie Heating and Cooling, owned by Calvin Parr. Currently employing nine, the company offers installation, service and repair works on all makes and models of air conditioners and heating equipment, plus sheet metal work.

NEW MADRID - Consolidated Grain and Barge Co and New Madrid County Port Authority officials shook hands Thursday evening, sealing two years of negotiations to bring a new industry to the area. Port Authority Director Bill Pinnell today announced the company has signed an option on land with the intention of building a full-scale grain operation at the port facility, located near Marston on the Mississippi River.


SIKESTON - In the first round of the 1997 American Legion Zone Tournament, Sikeston defeated Festus 8-3. Brent Selfe faced 38 batters and threw 150 pitches in his nine innings of work, allowing five hits, six walks and had 13 strikeouts.
