EAST PRAIRIE -- James Harlin "Jim" Owens, 68, died at 10:50 a.m. Sept. 28, 2006, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Aug. 20, 1938, in McGuire, son of the late William Harlin and Ines Marie Thacker Owens, he lived most of life in Mississippi County. He operated several businesses in East Prairie before retiring and was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include: five sons, James "Jimmy" Owens Jr. of Charleston and Mark Owens, Van Owens, Brice Owens and Page Owens of East Prairie; six daughters, Kathy Archie of LaCenter, Ky., Melinda Rice of Bertrand, Sandra Williams of Houston, Lori Carter of Sikeston and Hope Oatsville and Jamie Baker of East Prairie; four brothers, Ed Owens of Malden, Roy Owens of the state of Alabama, Ron Owens of Parma and Bob Owens of the state of California; and 30 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

One son, William Harlin Owens, preceded him in death.

Visitation is at 4 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday. Mike Johnson will officiate.

Burial will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
