Your view: We won't call you

Wednesday, February 28, 2007

The Missouri Sheriffs' Association is currently conducting a statewide drive to increase its honorary membership. The drive is being conducted through the mail.

The Missouri Sheriffs' Association has not, does not and will not employ telemarketers in recruiting new members. The Missouri Sheriffs' Association recruits members exclusively by direct mail, and then only with the advanced approval of the individual's local sheriff. If the individual whom Mr. Waters spoke represented themselves as acting on the authority of the Missouri Sheriffs' Association, they are lying. I repeat, we do not engage in phone solicitation.

If a citizen receives a call from anyone representing themselves as the Missouri Sheriffs' Association, they should report such calls immediately to our office and/or the Missouri Attorney General's office, as they are being lied to and quite possibly are being set up to become victims of some type of fraud.

The Missouri Sheriffs' Association complies with requests from the Better Business Bureau for financial records and information regarding our method of recruiting new members. We are proud of the fact that we are able to report 84 cents of every dollar collected in membership does support the programs and mission of the Missouri Sheriffs' Association.

Should you have questions regarding this membership drive, contact the Missouri Sheriffs' Association at 573-635-5925.

Dennis D. Martin

President
