SIKESTON - Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Lewis, Route 3, announced the arrival of a daughter, born Dec. 18 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

SIKESTON - Seven women were recognized by the Business and Professional Women's Club. Women honored were Dr. Thelma Buckthorp, Mrs. Tony Statler, Mrs. M.L. Limbaugh, Miss Almaretta Sidwell, Mrs. C.T. Melton, Mrs. Ralph Carroll and Mrs. O.V. McReynolds.

NEW MADRID - A proclamation kicking off the Designated Driver Program in New Madrid was signed Friday afternoon by New Madrid Mayor Dick Phillips. The program, sponsored by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and the Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the New Madrid ARTOP program, is designed to keep persons who drink from driving.


SIKESTON - Junior Girl Scout Troop 356 donated $50 to Sikeston Regional Children's Services this week. The troop, from Lee Hunter Elementary School, earned the money with a lemonade stand at this year's Cotton Carnival.

CHICAGO (AP) - Chris Farley was found dead Thursday, Dec. 18 on the floor of his apartment, clad in pajama bottoms. Farley's brother John found the body in the 60th floor apartment of the John Hancock Building along the stretch of Michigan Ave. called the Magnificent Mile. An autopsy was planned for today.


MINER - The Rev. Bruce Hall is the new pastor for Love Light Tabernacle, 720 David Lane. He and his wife, Taleca, live in Mound City, Ill.
