Your view: A letter from Santa

Thursday, January 25, 2007

Dear Mike and Don,

What a wonderful holiday season this year. Ole Santa always has a great time with the children of all ages of the world who "believe" in me and the reason for the season. Christmas Eve is such a busy and wonderful night of each year, but it sure does wear ole Santa out. Right now I am on an extended vacation in the Bahamas, enjoying the warm sandy beaches that I normally don't have an opportunity to be around. But I'll be back at the North Pole very soon to supervise the 2007 season.

By the way, I wanted to thank all of the great folks that made my visits to Sikeston this year the best that they have ever been. I have so much fun giving the children rides in the Pepsi Cola sleigh as we sing Christmas songs and they tell me what they want Santa to bring them on Christmas.

Of course, you and your popular newspaper had a big part in the success of the sleigh ride event. The ads you placed in the paper were super. Thanks again. As you know, the money raised by the rides and pictures is being donated to the expansion of Sikeston's YMCA.

I hope you all noticed that the Department of Public Safety, police and fire departments gave me a parade around town officially kicking off the holiday shopping season. Capt. Dan Armour did a wonderful job coordinating that venture. Thank you Capt. Dan and all of the officers that participated.

This year the children and their parents that were at the sleigh rides were treated to hot chocolate donated by Mr. Tim Merideth with Burch Food Services and delicious chocolate chip cookies backed and donated by Mr. Jerry Callis at Food Giant on North Main. Thank you all for helping continue this tradition.

Well, I see Mrs. Claus waving at me to come and take my surfing lessons, so I had better close for now. I will need to be back home very soon.

Thanks again to all who participated this year and be good for Santa, okay?

Remember, I'll be watching.

Santa Claus
