SIKESTON - Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Barton, Atlanta, purchased the Pine Motel on Highway 61 South and plan improvements to its structure.

SIKESTON - Five hundred men wearing cogged-wheel lapel buttons and their families are expected for the annual district 609 conference here April 20-22. Thatcher Scism is president of the host club and president-elect Fred Koch of the Sikeston organization is chairman of the committee.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Jaycees Saturday night honored three Sikeston residents in conjunction with their annual installation banquet at which honors were also presented to several club members. Kevin J. Glaser of the Missouri State Highway Patrol was honored as Outstanding Young Law Enforcement Officer; Julie Ann Reynolds, a teacher in the Sikeston Public School system, was chosen Outstanding Young Educator; and James E. Cox Sr., owner of Home Oil Co. and the Bottle Shoppe in Sikeston, was honored as Boss of the Year.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston golf team managed to upend the red hot bunch from New Madrid County Central on Thursday, winning 162-168. "We beat a good team today," said Sikeston head coach Gary Silverthorn after the match. "It was a good win to have."


CAPE GIRARDEAU - The Sikeston High School baseball program took a giant leap forward, Thursday, as the Bulldogs swept the Cape Central Tigers, winning the varsity game, 11-6, and the junior varsity contest, 7-1. "This was a big lift for our program. I was proud of them. They could have folded, but they showed a lot of character," said Brent Self, Sikeston coach.
