DEXTER -- Granville "Cate" Gregory, 62, died March 6, 2007, at his home in Dexter.

Born Dec. 10, 1944, in Parma, son of Grady and Eva Jane Bell Gregory of Dexter, he became a patrolmen with the Dexter Police Department on Jan. 20, 1982, and retired as detective on Sept. 20, 2002. While with the Dexter Police Department, he served one year as assistant chief of police. He was a former member of the Stoddard County Major Case Squad, worked as a security guard with the John J. Pershing Veterans Administration Medical Center at Poplar Bluff and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a military policeman during the Vietnam War.

On Sept. 14, 1965, in Dudley, he married Angelia Cunningham, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, Jason Gregory of Dexter; two brothers, Steve Gregory and Reggie Gregory of Dexter; and one sister, Nina Graves of Dexter.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, where services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Kent Miller will officiate.

Burial with full military rites will follow in the Dudley Cemetery.
