Speakout 3/11

This is in response to The naked truth. Don't worry about them looking at half-naked pictures of women in the Standard Democrat. The kids are all too busy looking at completely naked women on the Internet.

It is so good to hear someone finally agree with me about the "so called" leader of the Big Easy. I am from Biloxi, Miss., with most of my family living closer to New Orleans in and around Pass Christian, Waveland and Long Beach. Any time you hear about Hurricane Katrina in the news, it's all about New Orleans. Let me clarify the way it is for you and the rest of Sikeston. Some of you may even know me from this because I have spoken about it to many. Hurricane Katrina directly hit Slidell, La. and Waveland, Miss. This put the most dangerous side of the storm (the east side) hitting Pass Christian, Long Beach, Gulfport and Biloxi. Ocean Springs even got quite a bit of damage. Although New Orleans felt some of the strong winds, rain, etc. they pretty much got out with little to no damage. All they had to worry about was the hurricane. New Orleans' major problem was due to broken levees. Although I have enjoyed The Big Easy more times than I can even try to count, I do have to say this. A city built in a fish bowl was not the smartest thing in the world. And, that is exactly what it is. It is surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico, the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain. Anyway, the reason New Orleans was in turmoil, was because the New Orleans government, the Louisiana government and the Army Corps of Engineers failed to fix the levees over ten years ago when they were warned that they were not going to hold up if we had a major storm like Hurricane Camille of 1969. And you can take that to the bank.

I'm sure you won't print this but I'm tired of reading all the negative junk coming from Portageville's basketball fans. Why do they hate Sikeston so much? All they do is talk about Sikeston, but their team has not done anything. They had one big win and that's it. They beat a injured Sikeston team and they act like that was a state championship. All they've done is lose to a bunch of sorry teams so they have no room to talk. Sikeston's season is over but guess what, so is Portageville. Better luck next year.

I would like to know if BMU has raised the electric prices. My electricity was high this month. I know it was cold, but it's still awfully high.

This is to the person who wrote in about Four for two, that went to the Sikeston ballgame last week. Well if you knew anything about high school basketball, you would have known that this was a district tournament starting. This tournament is ran by the Missouri State High School Athletic Association. It is not Sikeston High School. They are the one that charged you $4. So if you knew anything about high school sports, maybe you should find out before you start complaining about Sikeston. And you have a nice day.
