Speakout 1/14

There was a young couple who had a yard sale this past summer. They lived over near the Middle School. This lady had a knitting machine. If she still has the knitting machine, could she please call me at 472-1758?

I was just wondering if anyone is as concerned as I am about being able to look up people's houses and actually being able to see their house on Google Earth? I, myself am quite disturbed by this and hope others will be too and will rally around to get needless privacy invasive things like this taken off our Internet.

I think Sikeston's cab companies are a good service and they're doing a fine job. They need to get more drivers and have them available at all times instead of just having one or two drivers at 99.9 percent of the time.

I'm arriving home to watch the local news only to find that arguably the greatest power hitter of our time was not inducted into the Hall of Fame. Maybe I'm biased considering I'm a Cardinals fan and I've been a McGwire fan since his early years in Oakland, but I see this as huge disappointment and wonder how the voters can leave this great player out of the Hall. In a country where we live by the idea of "innocent until proven guilty," I don't understand how this idea can be thrown out the window and convict this guy over speculations and testimony given by his former teammate who has flip-

flopped his stories numerous times. I was let down by the accusations over steroid use by McGwire as were many fans throughout the country, but I don't believe this should keep him from the honor he truly deserves. He arrived in the league hitting an unheard of 49 homeruns in his rookie year and single handedly put baseball back on the map for many fans. In a time where possibly 75 percent of the players of his era experimented with performance enhancers, I assume, like the majority of fans, that he probably did take these substances but I have yet to see the proof. Are we going to pass over every great player of the 80s and 90s over pure speculation? For that matter, are we going to look back farther at former players of the 70s that took amphetamines for that extra edge? I don't want to go on a rant here, but I feel that this vote is disgraceful to treat a player that has given his life to the sport and the fans of baseball. Next time the ballots are cast, can we try to remember "innocent until proven guilty" and not the other way around? This is just one man's opinion, I could be wrong.

To the person who has the mold problem on their backporch: I'd use bleach.

There was a tornado that went through Sikeston in May of 1986. Several videos were made of this. Does anyone know of anyway possible of getting a copy of one of these videos? I would love to have one. Please leave your number in SpeakOut if you have one.
