Your view: Scriptures guide us

Friday, July 11, 2008

Thursday evening, June 26 08, I had the great privilege of being the guest of the city and one participant among a beautifully diverse gathering of citizens who are helping to set the sail for Sikeston, Mo. Every proposal had merit that if incorporated would benefit our community for decades to come.

Several common themes surfaced throughout the evening and one important to all is our submission to the plans and purposes of Jesus Christ. By ignoring Jesus and refusing to submit to Him as Lord of our lives, we have forfeited all of His wisdom and power necessary to achieve our destiny.

Life Church is using the following scriptures to correct and guide us.

Proverbs 14:34 (New American Standard Bible) Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.

Psalm 139:23-24 (Contemporary English Version) 23 Look deep into my heart, God, and find out everything I am thinking. 24 Don't let me follow evil ways, but lead me in the way that time has proven true.

2 Corinthians 13:5 (Contemporary English Version) 5 Test yourselves and find out if you really are true to your faith. If you pass the test, you will discover that Christ is living in you. But if Christ isn't living in you, you have failed.

Any nation, city or person that will hear God's correction and repent of its sins will be established in righteousness and will be exalted. May Sikeston Missouri be that city and all of us its privileged citizens!
