SIKESTON - James S. Kevil, builder of the new A&P super grocery market, which will be constructed near the corner of Scott and Center streets, announced today that the contract for construction has been let to the Penzel Construction Company of Jackson.

SIKESTON - The city collected $33,838.60 during July. More than half the total was accounted for by the annual sale of city merchants licenses, City Collector Ronald Lee reported.

PADUCAH, Ky. - The heat and humidity scorches the Bootheel, says a meterologist with the U.S. Weather Service. "At Paducah, it's been 109 on the heat index," said Robert Digiorgi. "I'd say the Bootheel is quite a bit higher."

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Sharks cleared most of the competition out of the water at the MWSC Championships, held at Sikeston's Public Pool, placing seventh in the field of 21 teams with 827.50 points.

SIKESTON - The Shriners had a hand in the grand finale of the Sikeston Public Library's 1998 Summer Reading Program. The Summer Reader Adventure Seekers were entertained with a Shriners Party Bus Ride and face painting, along with ice cream and cookies.

SIKESTON - Clint Black found some fans willing to wait out stormy weather to hear him sing Wednesday at the opening night of the Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo. Although rain and lightening thinned out some of the 9,4000 fans who attended opening night, many stayed for the entire concert.
