SIKESTON - Bryan Buchanan, who was appointed manager of the airport June 1, has resigned, according to Robert Matthews, chairman of the airport board. Don Robinson, owner and operator of the Robinson Flying Service at the airport, has been named temporary manager until a man is named to take over the duties permanently.

LILBOURN - Buddy Lafont of North Lilbourn celebrated his 101st birthday at his home in the Delmo Housing Projecty.

Aug. 7, 1988

KELSO - The Kelso Summerfest on Friday and Saturday offered a variety of games, goodies and activities, including the train ride for youngsters. The annual event was staged by the city's Jaycees.

NEW MADRID - Books recently donated to the New Madrid County Library by Beta Sigma Phi Sorority include, "The Three Little Pigs" and "The Three Bears" by Anne McGill-Franzen; "Where Are We Going" and "Let's Grow Things" by Deborah Manley.

SIKESTON - Randy Schmutz, the announcer for the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo, keeps track of the action during the rodeo from horseback inside the arena. Schmutz and his wife, Amber, work as a team in the rodeo business - he is a PRCA-sanctioned announcer and she has her own company providing music for rodeo events. This year, the pair, along with 2 1/2-year-old son, Cade, will travel to some 35 rodeos.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Junior American Legion baseball squad finished second in districts this season. This is the highest place yet for the Sikeston Junior Legion team. The team was sponsored by the Sikeston Auxiliary Unit Post 114.

MINER - Michael Nickelson is the new youth and music pastor at the Miner Baptist Church.
