CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeston boy's soccer team fell to the Poplar Bluff Mules in a 2-1 battle at the Notre Dame Soccerfest on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (0-4) had a chance to tie the game at the 68 minute mark with a penalty kick try, but it was missed to seal the win for the Mules.

"I thought we've improved every game," Sikeston head coach Derrick Long said. "We were in that game against a really tough Poplar Bluff team. We had a lot of chances where we could have won that game but they came out victorious."

"We're making strides and improving every game," he added. "We have three more games this week so we're hoping to just keep pushing forward."

The Bulldogs got off to a fast start by getting the first goal at the 18 minute mark. Jordan Davis scored off a Mikey Botkin assist.

Poplar Bluff came right back though on an unassisted goal from Nathan Haupt at the 36 minute mark to tie the game at one going into halftime. But, one more goal by Poplar Bluff's Josh Millin at the 64 minute mark put them up for good.

Sikeston's next game is on Tuesday when they host Marion, Ill.
