Plain ol' American

This is about the Republicans and the Democrats. There are two major differences. You can take John McCain and Sarah Palin out back and give them ammunition to hunt, and Obama and Biden the same thing. McCain and Palin would survive 3 months and Biden and Obama wouldn't. All this back biting about poor people drawing Social Security or disability or welfare, that's not right. A lot of people need that help. We all need to try to pull together as Americans. You can't be an African-American, you've got to be just American. There's no such thing as Italian-American, African-American, Vietnamese American. The only true American is the Native American Indian.

A job well done

I was in your local Wal-Mart store a couple of weeks ago. A very fine lady that works in the baby world, her name is Carolyn, she's always been very good and helpful for me. She always helps me find things that I need. I just wanted to say that you need more associates like her in the store.

Takes the cake, but not the candy

I'm writing this in response to the article I read in the paper that said the Department of Public Safety will not allow candy to be thrown out during the Cotton Carnival parade because of safety issues. This parade has been around for a very long time and I have never heard of anyone being injured because candy is being given out. Sikeston comes up with a lot of stupid rules, but this takes the cake. The Cotton Carnival parade is one of the biggest in our area and kids look forward to it every year. It's not like there is a lot for children to do in this town anyway, and now you want to ruin the one thing they do have. We are the taxpayers - why don't we have a say what goes on in our town? What's next - are you all going to decide we can't have Halloween or Christmas? I hope everyone that reads this calls DPS and lets them know we think the kids should have their candy. Oh, but we might better be careful, they may ban SpeakOut next.

I just heard the Cotton Carnival parade would not be passing out candy this year due to injuries. I've been going to that parade for over 30 years and I've never heard of anyone being injured by candy being thrown out. Sikeston has just messed up the parade this year. Thank you very much.

Making ends meet

I think somebody missed the point somewhere along the line. It's not the cost of the cigarettes or the beer that's the problem, it's I just can't make ends meet. I just don't know - I just can't make ends meet.

Going postal

If the local newspapers are so concerned about scams, they should stop printing the "Postal workers needed" job offer. If you call the 800 number, they just want to sell you an info packet that they claim will help land you a job with the USPS. In other words, it's a scam.
