SpeakOut 9-23

Bullies

I would like to speakout about bullies in our school systems. A Middle School south of Sikeston has got an abundant amount of bullies. The teachers turn their backs when they are scuffling, hitting each other, calling names. Why are teachers getting paid if not to run a calm classroom? How can a child concentrate on learning when someone is hitting him on the back, slapping him in the back of the head or calling him names? I know the teachers know about this. I know a couple of them that turn their backs. They look, see what's going on and turn their backs. This isn't America's way of teaching our children. Teachers, please stop this! This is why so many children now take weapons to school. They think they have to defend themselves against the bullies that our principals, superintendents and our school teachers do not pay attention to. Get with it! This is 2008, not 1955. It's dangerous to bully a child. And parents, talk to your kids about bullying other children. Some children will not tolerate it, they repel by taking a knife or gun to school. We don't need this in our county.

Picture worth a thousand

This is in response to Obama dollars. To the person who sent this in, if your boy McCain gets elected, we'll all be on food stamps. And whose picture will be on that - his or George's?

- - -

I seen in the SpeakOut where somebody said that Obama's picture might be on the food stamps if he's elected. No, I don't think so. Mr. McCain's picture might be on there because we will all need food stamps.

Cat and mouse

To the people complaining of cats on their property and sunning on their porch. You need to look at the positive because they will keep the mice away. I would much rather have a cat on my porch than mice around. Also, cats don't know where their owner's property line ends and yours begins. However, if these cats bother you so much, spray them with a water hose when they are in their yard. This will not hurt them and they will eventually get the point and find a new porch to sun on.

Hottie and the hero

It kills me to see John McCain playing second banana to Mrs. Palin. She's Johnny Carson; he's Ed McMahon. I don't like it. Yes, he's finally drawing crowds, except that now the crowds are coming out to see the hotie instead of the hero. It's demeaning. He could have won without her and kept his dignity.

Pucker up

The difference between Sarah Palin and George W. Bush -- lipstick.

Community organizer

The seditious role of the community organizer was developed by an extreme left intellectual called Saul Alinsky. He was a radical Chicago activist who, by the time he died in 1972, had had a profound influence on the highest levels of the Democratic party. Alinsky was a 'transformational Marxist' in the mold of Antonio Gramsci, who promoted the strategy of a 'long march through the institutions' by capturing the culture and turning it inside out as the most effective means of overturning western society. In similar vein, Alinsky condemned the 60's radical Left for alienating the general public by its demonstrations and outlandish appearance. The 'revolution' had to be carried out through stealth and deception. Its proponents had to cultivate an image of centrism and pragmatism. A master of infiltration, Alinsky wooed Chicago mobsters and Wall Street financiers alike. And successive Democratic politicians have adopted his deceptive tactics. This is the true identity of the new democrat party. Nothing more than Marxists wearing the mask of an old fashioned new deal democrat. Their new deal is no compromise, no tolerance for opposition, no free speech for their opposition, no way, but their way. They are devout liars, deceivers, and ruthless character assassins….and their messiah is Barrack Hussein Obama!

Ms. of Representation

Regarding Family first on Sept. 13 - How can you use God and Democrat in the same paragraph? Why would you associate family and Democrat in the same sentence, the two very things Democrats don't stand for. Your candidate believes in abortion and homosexual marriages, how does he represent God and family better than Palin does?

Just the facts

Remember the election in 2006? Consumer confidence stood at 2 1/2 year high, Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon, and unemployment rate was 4.5 percent. Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen: consumer confidence plummet, the cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.95 a gallon, unemployment rate is up to 5.5 percent (a 25 percent increase), American households have seen $2.7 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses), Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.5 trillion dollars, 3 percent of American homes are in foreclosure. Remember it's Congress that makes the law not the President. He has to work with what is handed to him.

Not so uppity

This is to landlords that rent to Section 8 and trash in general. When you move these people into nice neighborhoods, it makes you look as bad as them. Just because you own property and think you're a bit uppity, we know you're not at all. You know who you are, so do we and so does everyone having to live around these messes.

What a way to save

I was just wondering if the lights going out on Sunday, Sept. 14 was part of Obama's energy saving plan.

A sagger and a pear tree

I think instead of having the sag law that they are trying to have here in Sikeston, maybe they should consider having the no Bradford pear tree law. I've noticed they have really been strewn across our city and they are quite unsightly.

Passing the baton

What happened to the majorettes in the Sikeston Band? I know they have been missing for several years now, but never knew what happened. Bring them back! What's a band without twirling, whirling majorettes? Also, whoever is in charge of ordering outfits for the flag girls, needs to re-evaluate. Not all girls can wear an off the shoulder, skin-tight outfit. Please buy something that looks flattering on everyone, no matter what their size is.

We will survive

In response to "Bad fashion taste isn't Council issue" Bravo! A well-considered (and written) column. We will survive this and future fads and to react by imposing "community" (?) standards reflects poorly on the community. There are more pressing issue to be sure. Watch out, though, as such a view could be considered almost liberal and smacks of (gasp!) a defense of civil rights. Nicely done.
