SIKESTON - "Kids on the Block" uses puppets to help make children aware of disabilities. Composed of employees of the Sikeston Regional Center, the puppeteers are Gloria Hopkins, Sandy Wheetley, Lori Hayden and Laura Griffin. The local troupe will perform for public and parochial schools throughout the area.

SIKESTON - The freshman conservation class, under the supervision of Larry Bohannon, planted 10 white dogwood trees on the campus of Sikeston Junior High Friday.

SIKESTON - Friday, postal carriers in Sikeston will pick up old eyeglasses along each of their routes for the Sikeston Lions Club.

SIKESTON - The Public Safety Department reported a theft from the Jaycee Haunted House on the Jaycee Rodeo Grounds sometime between 3:30 p.m. Sunday and noon Tuesday. According to DPS, the suspects broke into the steel shed building and stole two public address systems, one valued at $1,000 and the other at $600. Also stolen was a smoke machine valued at $350 and an AM/FM cassette player, valued at $30. The total value taken was $1,980 and the case is currently under investigation.
