SIKESTON -- Louise L. Cates, 83, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

She was born April 11, 1925, in Savannah, Tenn., daughter of the late Marvin and Ethel Ables Baugus. She was a charter member of Fellowship Baptist Church and her husband, father, and brother all helped build the first church.

On Aug. 20, 1944, at Oceola, Ark., she married William Thomas "Bill" Cates; he preceded her in death Aug. 16, 1991.

One brother, James Ray Baugus, who was killed in active duty during World War II, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by: two daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Denny Schuerenberg of Matthews and Nancy and Jim Withrow of Sikeston; one brother and sister-in-law, C.A. and Rose Marie Baugus of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren and their spouses, Jim and Tina Withrow II of Sikeston, Jason and Heather Schuerenberg of Matthews, and Lynn and Linda Massey of Brisbane, Australia; one precious great-granddaughter, Ashley Claire Withrow of Sikeston; and two special nieces, Karen Baugus Turner of Indiana and Jackie Baugus Rafferty of Arizona.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. The Rev. Joe McCullough, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
