Home of the brave

I don't know if I can stand hearing one more Republican crybaby telling me about how "scared to death" they are, now that their favorite non-reading cretin is leaving the White House. Well, I'm also scared to death. I'm scared to death that the Obama administration won't take office in time to save the country from total destruction brought about by eight years of the most incompetent president in our nation's history. And when you scaredy-cats sing the national anthem, you can leave out the words, "And the home of the brave," because we know that doesn't include you.

Board gets dressed down

I recently attended a Board of Education meeting in Charleston. It was definitely a learning experience for me. The school district is strongly encouraging teachers to dress professionally and students to dress appropriately. I was very proud of the students and parents that were in attendance for Student of the Month recognition. We were dressed in our Sunday best, as were the district's administrators and faculty members. I was, however, completely embarrassed by the appearance of the Board of Education members. For example, the chairperson of the dress code committee, who is a Board of Education member, was dressed in blue jeans. If the Board of Education members were truly interested in changing the appearance of Charleston's teenagers, then shouldn't they dress professionally? After all, they campaigned on the platform of "doing the best for students." I guess the campaign slogan is actually "do as I say, not as I do."

Advance warning

I read on the front page of the paper where they were going to have a Christmas round up of drug and alcohol abusers and so forth. My question is why would any law enforcement be stupid enough to pronounce this ahead of time - giving people who are convicted felons that they are looking for a chance to run and not be found? Another thing, I feel it's very wrong for the law enforcers to do these round ups on special holidays. Catching a bad guy is one thing, but it's ruining the innocent people's family holidays. That's not right. They should do it the day before or the day after, not the day of the holiday. They just ruin and rip away everybody's holidays. In today's economy we can barely decide about Christmas because we are all so poor. You can't hardly afford anything. All we have is each other and what love we have for one another. I'm not against the round up. I'm all about them catching the bad guys, but they were stupid for announcing it ahead of time giving people a head start on running. The law enforcers need to sit down and re-talk this thing. Merry Christmas.

Not enough space

In regard to the young lady who wrote about "He is your president." I have lived over twice the length of time you have. I am 60. I am very much against Barack Obama, for many issues, not just abortion, or his socialist ideas in health reform and redistribution of wealth. Space will not allow nearly all the issues. Years ago there were yellow dog Democrats - where the candidate was so bad, that we'd rather vote for a yellow dog than the candidate. Bring on the dog because until Barack is out of office, I too, do not recognize him as president. The office will be vacant until his successor is elected. Thank you. The yellow dog would do better, but Barack does have a nice smile - like a fox at the hen house.

Going, going, gone

The abhorrent actions of Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich are making almost as many waves among the media elite as Idaho Senator Larry Craig playing "footsie" with an undercover agent in a Minneapolis Airport restroom. While Craig's behavior was reprehensible and reflective of serious personal moral flaws, Blagojevich is accused of attempting to offer governance of the American people to the highest bidder. Democrats however are quick to turn attention back to sleazy personal acts of anyone associated with the scarlet letter 'R.' Any act like Craig's, if done by a Democrat, would be championed with an ear-shattering auto response from the ACLU, and all the other homo promos rushing to defend and protect. And in this case the press while dispensing with Blagojevich, neglects to mention or even have the scroll at the bottom of the screen identify him as a democrat, while they simultaneously sing the praises of democrat Obama who was spawned from that same cesspool of Chicago politics, and was soul mates with Blagojevich until Blagojevich threw his temper tantrum on tape over not getting his customary due kick-back for Obama's vacated Senate seat. Oh, but the hot air from the media has Obama soaring above all that. He's not involved in anyway, oh no-no-no-no-no. . . yea, right!

China bailout

Oh my gosh. China's economy is starting to slump. China is financing our debt. If some of their economic concerns get in worse shape, we'll have no choice but to bail them out.

Just a technicality

Free Rod Blagojevich! Though he did a lot of cursing about this, that and the other on tape, he has only been charged with one technical violation. He allegedly "corruptly solicited and demanded a thing of value" from the Chicago Tribune. This will end up being yet another shocking example of federal prosecutorial excess. Though he may have been unaware of it, some of the things Blago bragged that he might do under the table could have been done legally. That's the real problem with our system.

Illinois up for bids

I was wondering if Rob Blagojevich has sold Illinois to Japan yet. Or Canada?

False advertising

I just want everyone to know that a certain store broke the law on Black Friday. I, like many others, woke up at the crack of dawn to brave the sales. When I went up to the register to pay for my items, one item did not ring up at the sale price. I told the cashier the sale price. She first said that whatever it rings up as is what it is. After my showing her the sale bill with the item plainly in view with the sale price, she asked another sales clerk. She did call electronics but never got an answer. Finally, the other sales clerk told her the price was whatever it rang up, even though she sat there staring at the sale bill, knowing it was on sale the whole time. This is false advertisement! I can't express how upset I was that I would wake up that early and have the item in my hand and still not be able to get it at sale price. There was absolutely no reason for this. The manager of this establishment needs to know what kind of unfair practices they have going on there.

And you called SpeakOut instead of the manager?

Read your Bible

This is in regards to the Thursday, Dec. 11 edition, to the person who said it can't be both ways - you're born either homosexual or heterosexual, but being bisexual is a sin. Read your Bible.

Coca-Cola cough

Can a soda machine get lung cancer? I was just wondering because every time I pass a certain store there are employees standing around the machine smoking. I sure do feel sorry for that poor, old soda machine.
