Ups and downs

If your property value has gone up (unlikely), you'll pay more property taxes. If your property value has gone down (likely), you won't pay any less tax.

Local builders

Great job Taco John's for hiring a local construction company to build your new store. The Pratt company is right here in Sikeston, with local employees, where Taco Bell used a company out of Indiana. I think everyone here should support Taco John's.

Hoopla hoops

On the subject of the Scott Central and Sikeston game, I want to know one thing. Scott Central is a legend in the Southeast Missouri basketball community. For the past 30 years they've been doing what they do best. You never heard a word about Sikeston wanting a piece of them. Now that the Bulldogs have a decent team, you would think they were the greatest basketball dynasty in the last 50 years. Sikeston, you got a good team. Get over it. Ronnie Cookson and the Braves wrote the book on Southeast Missouri run and gun basketball. I'm sure the boy is an old war horse himself, but treats you like all the rest. There will be a tip off and then take you to school. Until you've experienced the pressure and pace they bring to the game, be very careful in what you wish for. You may not be as great as what you think you are. And Mills, get off your soap box. They're not going to play. Both schools have to want it - one is willing and one is not. That's just the way it is.

Sikeston has such a good team this year because they have Scott Central's Michael Porter. He was born, raised and trained at Scott Central.

This (Scott Central vs. Sikeston) would be a good game. Yes Michael Porter is good but he is there scorer. Drew Thomas, Otto Porter, and Bobby Hatchett are SCC's main scorers supported by Dez Williams and Randy Timmons. I would have to say Scott County Central gets the win vs. the Bulldogs. Drew Thomas is scoring in bunches averaging about 30 points a game; probably the best player in the area; maybe best player to come out of this area - besides Tyler Hansbrough of course
