Jan. 15, 1949

SIKESTON - The city's new mail route which covers Smith Addition is working out satisfactorily, Postmaster Pleas Malcolm reported today. He said that most of the homes had compiled with the regulations about putting up house numbers, mail boxes and erecting street signs in the Addition.

Jan. 15, 1969

MINER - "People are shocked to death to find out we have law out here." Anna Lewis, Miner city clerk, made the remark regarding the establishment of a municipal court system for Miner. Many complaints have been lodged in Miner about speeders and drag racing. An attempt is being made to deter violators. Three persons were fined Monday night in municipal court for speeding.

DEXTER - Two Sikeston men are among 11 persons scheduled to appear in Stoddard County Magistrate Court Thursday to face gambling charges.

SIKESTON - Sikeston's junior varsity girls earned a 42-31 win over Malden at the Sikeston Field House Friday.

SIKESTON - Girl Scout cookie sales will continue through Jan. 24 and the $2.75 for each box is not due until the cookies are delivered between Feb. 18-28.

DEXTER - Charleston's Lady Bluejays improved to 6-7 on the season with a 55-44 win over Dexter on Thursday night, while the New Madrid County Central Lady Eagles suffered another loss -- losing to area powerhouse Poplar Bluff 55-44. "We had an opportunity to win the ballgame, and that's about all you can ask against somebody like Poplar Bluff," said NMCC head coach Joby Holland.
