PORTAGEVILLE -- Serving Christ in crisis.

That's the mission of one organization that has teamed up with others in Portageville to help those affected by last week's winter storms.

Pitching in to provide services for those in need are members of the Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief Organization.

"These are all Christians and members of different Baptist churches through Missouri and other states that come and help during disaster situations like this," said Mel Callahan, who is in charge of the operation's chain saw unit. "It's a service-based ministry. Jesus said 'I have come to serve and not to be served,' and that's what we're here for."
