Conference attendance helps county fight marijuana

BENTON -- The Scott County Sheriff's Department is gearing up to do their part in the battle against marijuana grow operations this spring.

Two Sheriff's Department officers, Lt. Jerry Bledsoe and Sgt. Branden Caid, recently attended the 2010 Marijuana Eradication Conference in Osage Beach, according to Rick Walter, Scott County sheriff.

Marijuana "is kind of the forgotten drug," Walter said. "Methamphetamine is a problem; heroin has moved into the area, that's a problem; prescription medications, cocaine -- all these other drugs get a lot of enforcement, as they should, but marijuana is something that kind of gets overlooked because of all the hype with the other drugs."
