CARUTHERSVILLE -- Seven persons, including an elected official, former Pemiscot County employees and two local businessmen, are charged in connection with the forging of invoices to the Pemiscot County Road and Bridge Department.

According to Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell, the investigation began three months ago.

"During the course of this investigation it was learned employees with the Pemiscot County Road and Bridge Department and local businessmen were being paid with county funds by the Pemiscot County Commission after false invoices were submitted and approved by the Commission for approximately the last three years," Greenwell said.
