Sikeston junior high teams sweep Jackson

JACKSON -- The Sikeston eighth grade boys basketball team defeated the Jackson Indians 39-15 Monday night in Jackson.

"It was a good road win for us," Sikeston coach Derek James said. "Our kids played hard and we had a lot of balanced scoring, which is good to see."

Sikeston (2-0) jumped out to a quick nine-point lead after the first quarter holding Jackson to zero points in the process.

They led 23-6 after the first half.

The Bulldogs had three players score eight points to lead the team -- Jaylen Mallory, Dre Davis and Cederic McIntyre.

Sikeston will head to Dexter tonight to take on the Bearcats.

SEVENTH GRADE

JACKSON -- It didn't take long for the Sikeston seventh grade boys basketball team to get ahead of the Jackson Indians Monday night.

Out-scoring the home team 16-4, the Bulldogs continued to pour it on as they came away with a 49-36 win.

"We started out pretty good," Sikeston coach Eric Voorhees said. "We jumped out to an early lead, which is always a good thing.

"The kids played hard and pulled out a good win for us."

Sikeston (2-0) led the Indians 32-15 at the half.

Sam Cox led the Bulldogs with 14 points while Phayzun Fobbs added 10 and DeShawn Aldridge chipped in with eight. Sikeston also had four other scorers in the victory.

The Bulldogs will play the Dexter Bearcats tonight in Dexter.
