Sikeston boys 2nd, girls 5th at districts

FARMINGTON -- The Sikeston boys took second in the Class 3, District 1 track meet on Saturday in Farmington while the girls managed a fifth place finish.
Sikeston fell 15 points shy of the district title in the boys division, losing to Festus who finished with 140.
Keldon Warfield led the boys with a first place finish in the long jump and 110-meter hurdles. He also qualified for the sectional meet in the 300-meter hurdles.
Sikeston's Terry Jamison won the triple jump while Steven Baker won the 100. Sikeston also took first in the 400, 800 and 1,600-meter relays.
Kyland Gross also qualified for sectionals in the high jump and long jump as did Spenser Clark in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.
The top four in each event qualified for sectionals Saturday in Ste. Genevieve.
In the girls' division, Betsy Borgsmiller began her quest for another state title by winning the high jump while teammate Jalen Peet took first in the triple jump.
Peet also qualified for sectionals in the long jump while Allisha Ogelsby finished second in the triple jump to move on.
Both Sikeston and Dexter's 800-meter relay teams advance to sectionals with a third and fourth place finish respectively while both schools' 400-meter relay teams also advanced. Sikeston finished second in the event while the Lady Bearcats were fourth.
Dexter's Taylor Martin won both the 100 and 200 while New Madrid County Central's Rashaunda Summers won the shot put.
