Need to feed hungry R-6 students is growing

SIKESTON -- An increasing number of Sikeston school children don't know where their next meal will come from, which has prompted Southeast Missouri Food Bank to turn to the community for immediate assistance.

"Sikeston R-6 educators are reporting a growing need of students in the community that are without adequate food," Amanda Winschel, children's programs manager for Southeast Missouri Food Bank.

Already, the child feeding program, BackPacks For Fridays, is short on funds to keep serving the 75 elementary students in the Sikeston R-6 school district with a backpack, Winschel said.
