CHARLESTON -- Ethel M. Cates Kuykendall, 83, died Dec. 31, 2012, at her home in Charleston.

Born March 24, 1929, at Datto, Ark., to the late John Henry and Liza Mae Belcher Cates, she had lived most of her life in Charleston where she was a member of the Charleston Church of Christ.

On Dec. 20, 1947, she married Carmen Kuykendall, who preceded her in death on Oct.15, 2000.

Three brothers, James Earl Cates, Jearl Cates and Charlie Cates, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include: five sons and two daughters-in-law, Kenneth Kuykendall, Charles and Teresa Kuykendall, Steve Kuykendall of Charleston, Danny and Becky Kuykendall of Sikeston and Bobby Kuykendall of East Prairie; one daughter, Brenda Bruenderman of Charleston; one brother, Ervin Cates of Charleston; and 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. Thursday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Her son, Danny Kuykendall, will officiate.

Private burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston.

Pallbearers will be: her grandsons, Jason Bruenderman, Steve Kuykendall, Dave Avery, Michael Kuykendall, Adam Kuykendall and Bobby Kuykendall.
