EAST PRAIRIE -- An East Prairie elementary has already confirmed more blood donors than the school's total number of students.

The annual two-day blood drive at R.A. Doyle Elementary School has grown to be one of the most successful blood drives in the area, according to the American Red Cross. Every year 300 elementary school students who attend the school are able to recruit about 200 blood donors.

This year, the school's preschoolers through second graders have already recruited over 330 donors, which is quite a jump from the 232 blood donors they had last year, said Doyle Elementary preschool teacher and East Prairie native Leslie Allgier.

"I'm excited," said Allgier, who has organized the annual event over the last five years. "Last Tuesday we only had 130 donors confirmed."
