New system takes cash out of jailer hands, enables self bailouts
BENTON -- The Scott County Jail is almost out of cash -- and couldn't be happier.
"We are trying to get away from handling any cash at all," said Sheriff Rick Walter said.
And the EZ Card and Kiosk company of Irvine, Calif., almost has them there.
Walter said as his Department is currently making the change to new software programs, now was the perfect time to also make the change to a new self-service kiosk system to make things more convenient on inmates and their families as well as on his deputies and jail staff.
"The old kiosk could receive money for inmates to use for the commissary and that was it," he said. "We are able to use this one for several different things. It went online June 20."
One of the features staff at the Scott County Circuit Clerk's office are just as excited about is being able to accept bonds paid by credit card, debit card or cash at the kiosk located in the jail's secure lobby, according to a Wednesday news release from Christy Hency, circuit clerk.
