MINER -- Keeping the Miner's costs down for taking strays to the local humane shelter could be as simple as enforcing the city ordinance already in the books.

Action on an ordinance to set fees for the impoundment of an animal was tabled by the Miner Board of Aldermen during their regular monthly meeting Monday.

The Board recently came to an agreement with the Sikeston Area Humane Society to accept the city's stray dogs in exchange for a payment of $35 each.

Danielle Patrick, city clerk, suggested board members review the city's current ordinance before taking action on amending the ordinance.

Harold Tarrants, of the city's public works department, said the city could start enforcing the requirement in the ordinance for dogs to be licensed.
