New Madrid woman is charged with theft/stealing

NEW MADRID - A long-time New Madrid County Sheriff's Department employee is charged with theft.

Following an investigation conducted by the Missouri Highway Patrol at the request of Sheriff Terry M. Stevens, Deborah L. Cowan, the former Sheriff's Department office manager, was arrested on the charge of theft/stealing (value of property or service over $25,000) a Class B felony. Cowan held the position of office manager for 20 years, according to a news release from the sheriff's department.
