SPEAKOUT

A mighty fine job

It will probably be too late by the time SpeakOut prints this, but I just want to hope that you got a good look at all the rodeo decorations at the Semo Health Network the doctors' clinic and the dental clinic over by Aldi's. What a way to get the rodeo started. Thank you girls and guys, whoever did it.

This, that and the other

If it's true that we are here to help others, then what are the others here for?

Pocketbook pals

I have just finished reading in the commentary section what Jenkins put in there about a woman and her purse. And if he hadn't said "girlfriend," I would've sworn he had been behind my wife for 40 years. That was a good one, David. Thank you.

Clear as mud

I'm reading the Aug. 8 Standard where Holly Rehder, our new state representative, explains House Bill 253. I can't figure out what she's talking about. She says, "We need to cut state taxes." In the same article, she says, "I believe we need to fund the foundation formula 100 percent, something that has not occurred in the past many years. I may be old school, but I believe when your mode of operation isn't working you don't stick your head in the sand." She's not old school, she's no school. She wants to cut taxes, but raise funding for education. She later says that 253 has no loopholes, no gimmicks and no lobbyist special favors. But it takes three lines in your newspaper to explain all of the gimmicks and goof-ball deals that are in this bill. It says safeguards have been included and that in order for a decrease to take place an increase must take place. This is the biggest bunch of trash, and she is a less-than-informed state representative. Read the article and tell me what it says. I would be amazed if you could understand the drift. She's covering all bases at once.
