CORN HARVEST IN FULL SWING

Looking to stay ahead of today's forecasted rain, farmers shell corn Thursday on a field in Scott County. For the week ending Sept. 15, corn harvested statewide was 10 percent complete, 34 days behind last year and 18 days behind normal, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service's crop progress and condition report. In Southeast Missouri, 39 percent of corn was harvested as of Sept. 15 -- compared to 87 percent for the same time last year. However, corn in the Southeast region was rated 86 percent good to excellent.
